New operating limitations from FAA, Started condition inspection

Build Time: 0.0 hours ... Analysis Time: 0.0 hours

Received 7.5 gallon wing tank from Zenith. I plan to add this as a removable tank/fuel pump in the right wing locker.

Per my request the FAA issued me new operating limitations (and airworthiness certificate). The new limitations are the ones currently issued - allowing flight over densely populated areas (w/ some restrictions) and not requiring FAA reinspection after a major modification.

Moved plane to Scappoose and started annual condition inspection.

Inspected left and right wing joints, wing interiors, lockers, wiring and lighting fixtures. Preserved wing tie-down eyes and aileron push rods, which were rusting. Measured aileron cable tension at 28 lbs.

Changed engine oil. Drained crap from coolant overflow bottle and refilled with new coolant. Inspected spark plugs. The #3 and #4 plugs showed a light black coating, the #1 and #2 plugs more of a light yellow light coating (from Pb). Ran engine compression test:
Cylinder Compression
1 143psi
2 141
3 145
4 135
Compression is better than last year, which makes sense as the rings wear in. Cylinder #4 was lowest before also, but only by 5 psi last time.

Installed an AN-3 bolt on the upper left engine mount, about 1/2" from the main mounting bolt. Found that the weight of the engine was causing the flat metal against the firewall to bend out. The bolt holds it flat against the firewall. Retorqued the main engine mount bolts.

Removed spinner. Inspected propeller and hub.

Removed the right rudder pedal return spring. I need to shorten the spring to increase the return force, as right now the plane flies with the rudder slightly to left of center.

Replaced one A4 rivet that was missing its head on the pilot side center wing skin to fuselage side L.

Inspected fuel tank for contamination.
