Finally got around to removing aluminum wing plates. Found actual edge distance was 9.0 mm on the rear plates (front ones were fine). Removed rear plates from plane (wings were left in place, held by the front plates) and brought them home. Drilled/ground Zenith's replacement steel plates to exactly match the old aluminum ones. Drilled lightening hole in each plate. Reinstalled on aircraft and test flew briefly. Inspected plates and all looked good.
