Flew to Dolores Point airstrip with Chester my dog and spent the night.
Colorado Pilot's Association write-up on Dolores Point.

The useable portion of the strip is 2200 ft long, with a hill at each end. It was built in 1947 by the Atomic Energy Commison to support uranium mining. It currently sits on BLM land.

This is a back-country strip. There are no services, or people, to be had.

You can find various leftovers from the mining operation around the strip.

The area is quite scenic. The snow-capped La Sal mountains are visible a short ways to the northwest, and many wildflowers were in bloom.

The airstrip sits on top of a mesa, and is on top of the cliff shown here. The mine is about 800 ft deep, so we're still a ways above it!

Like every other back-country airstrip the environmental extremists would like to shut this one down. In fact the BLM dragged logs across this runway not long ago to prevent it's use. Due to the heroic actions of a colorful local who helped to build this strip in 1947 they were later removed. Thanks Wally!
