Current Progress Part 6
Here you can see the brakes and rudder
pedals. The instrument panel has a taped on printout from a CAD program on it.
I had a very hard time with getting the fuse top skin to fit to
the forward tube (its a flat skin but it needs a compound curve to fit!). I ended up
putting some spacers (made from the bearing nylon) on the lower 3 holes, plus a great deal
of pounding of the skin with a hammer to try and get a decent looking curve.
I have been safety wiring all the cable guides to make sure the
cable doesn't pop out during one of my landings.
I ordered an extra pair of ribs for the elevator and used them to
close off the sides of the cutout for the rudder. I think I will order an extra
rudder leading-edge rib and close off that opening also. It looks much more
professional, and should also help reduce drag.
I ended up mounting my ELT (an Ameri-King) hanging from the bottom of the
baggage compartment. I rivetted a 0.025 doubler plate, with a 90 deg bend on one
end, to the baggage floor for extra stiffness. Actually, I'm still not convinced it
meets the 'deflection test' requirements. There just isn't any rigid structure to
attach it to.
